About Us

When Fr. Ted Ley, SM, chaplain for both campuses, was a Chaminade high school student in 1958, The Talon was The Eagle while he worked on it, and it stayed that way the next four decades. The award-winning newspaper stayed in hiatus 1999-2000 when it was reborn with the name it carries today. The Talon made school history 2014-15 by winning several categories of the Youth Journalism International’s Excellence in Journalism annual contest, competing against newspapers in 23 U.S. states, Brazil, China, Ethiopia, Egypt, Italy, Pakistan, the Palestinian Territory, Syria and the United Kingdom. Considering our commitment to the good stewardship of our planet, The Talon in 2013 became solely an online publication for all digital devices. In the recent past it published on paper, in standard scholastic and tabloid formatting, and at www.chaminadetalon.com, still its homepage today. It has a presence on social media platforms including Twitter @ChaminadeTalon, YouTube, Facebook and Google+The Talon is a student reported- written- edited-publication currently run as an academic extracurricular, and in other years concurrently as an English Department elective. It welcomes contributions from all students, faculty and staff. While The Talon is sponsored by Chaminade College Preparatory, views expressed do not necessarily reflect those of our board members, administrators, faculty or staff, but they do follow the tenets of our Roman Catholic faith tradition.
